TEA WITH THE TALIBAN
As Taliban leaders strive to rebuild the economy and Afghanistan in their own image on a hostile world stage, pulled between the demands of The West and their own conservative islamic ideology, pressures mount on the ground for the people in the form of rising human rights abuses, intensifying poverty, devastating famine, and a murderous ISIS.
Tea with the Taliban offers an immersive and expository 360 look at unfolding events in Afghanistan over a year. With special and intimate access to Taliban leaders, we watch as they rebuild Afghanistan in their own image - and how everyday citizens are struggling to survive under the new regime.
This three-part series explores tensions between The West, the Taliban, and the Afghan people. The Taliban has an ideal Islamic society it wants to create - but what do the people of Afghanistan want? Furthermore, can the Taliban unfreeze Afghanistan’s assets and strengthen the economy - and what crises lie ahead for Afghanistan if they don’t?
Tea With the Taliban follows characters within the Taliban and three focal areas of civilian life. Each episode covers a principal theme, but character narratives/themes are woven throughout and followed chronologically giving a sense of change and narrative progress. Historical context will be provided throughout the film to describe and illustrate historical events contextualising the present day for our audience.
